How do I adjust the waist on a skirt pattern?

The total waist difference is divided equally across all seams. For a skirt with 2 side seams, front and back (4 seam locations), each seam adjusts by one-quarter of the total difference. Each side of the seam adjusts by half that amount.

Where is the natural waistline?

Your natural waist is the narrowest point of your torso, typically above the belly button and below the ribcage. Bend sideways to find it — it is where your body creases. This is where you measure for pattern fitting.

What if I need more than 5cm adjustment?

For large adjustments (more than 5cm total), consider choosing a different pattern size instead. Large adjustments at the waist alone can distort darts, hip shaping and the overall garment proportions.
