How We Calculate This
Thread consumption depends on seam length, stitch length, and fabric thickness. Top thread is used more than bobbin thread in a standard lockstitch.
The formula
Total stitches = Seam length ÷ Stitch length
Thread per stitch = Stitch length × 2.5 + Fabric thickness × 2
Bobbin thread ≈ Top thread × 0.6
